Flaneur Font Family – This user-friendly font effortlessly blends clarity and creativity. Conceived from experimentations with pointed nibs, Flaneurʼs design is inky, organic and ornamental; a contemporary serif unbound by typographic conventions with few ties to the past. However, to make sure that Flaneur is grounded in type design rather than the world of calligraphy, it takes some of its cues from French renaissance punch cutters such as Le Béʼs seven-line Pica Roman (c. 1598), visible in the design of the a and e. Offering a multitude of possibilities with its range of weights and widths, Flaneur could become your next go-to serif.
Flaneur works best for medium to large text, across print and digital. Its embellished design makes for a distinct display typeface due to its high contrast, inky joints, highly asymmetrical axes, small counters and stand-out characteristics found in the t and f. Bespoke kerning to some problematic characters has been added to this early release to enable an easier and refined use.
Flaneur V0.2 includes an array of styles across widths, weights and italics with approximately 160 glyphs per font, giving the user more than enough material to get their project started. Its character set includes basic Latin, a bunch of ligatures, two styles of numbers (lining and non-lining), necessary punctuation, symbols, illustrations and a few ampersand options. It also comes with a flamingo.
Flaneur Font is free for personal use. So, if you want to access more features and its full license contact Fred Wiltshire designer
