---ESSENTIAL "FLYBOY" INFORMATION---

TAXI SIGNALS

lower case - day
UPPER CASE - NIGHT

a, A - taximan positions;
b, B - taximan positions;
c, C - come ahead;
beckoning motion; rapidity shows plane speed desired.
d, D - left turn;
pull desired wing around with regular "come ahead."
point at opposite brake.
e, E - right turn;
pull desired wing around with regular "come ahead."
point at opposite brake.
f, F - slow down;
downward patting motion, hands out at waist level.
g, G - stop;
hands upraised and in simple "policeman's stop."
h, H - start engines or taxi;
thumbs up, o.k. - thumbs down, don't.
i, I - start engines;
clockwise cranking motion, pointing at proper engine.
j, J - pull chocks;
hands, thumbs pointed out, swept together at waist.
k, K - emergency stop;
regular "stop" with fists clenched, wands crossed.
l, L - cut engines;
hand drawn across neck in "throat-cutting" motion.
m, M - insert chocks;
hands, thumbs pointed in, swept together at waist.
n, N - fold wings;
arms, from straight out, swept in to hug shoulders.
o, O - spread wings;
arms in hugging position, then swept out to sides.
p, P - lower wing flaps;
hands flat together, then opened wide from wrist.
q, Q - raise wing flaps;
hands, opened wide from wrist, suddenly closed.
r, R - lock tail wheel;
hands overhead in "v," then suddenly brought together.
s, S - unlock tail wheel;
hands together overhead, then opened to form a "v."
t, T - up hook;
right thumb jerked up to meet horizontal left hand.
u, U - open cowl flaps;
hands, flat against sides of head, opened forward.
v, V - turnover of command;
both hands pointed at next succeeding taxi signalman.
